V. Silver objects and cult
Besides all the social and economic motivations, them being silversmith guilds, it must be added that the craftsmen made objects mainly destined to religious cult, many of them liturgical, such as chalices, patens and monstrances; and others simply for religious cult, such as altar crosses, professional crosses, incense holders, professional and altar candle holders.
Silversmiths today make mainly ornamental objects, especially feminine. In jewellery window displays one can see bracelets, pendants, rings. In jewellery window displays in Santiago de Compostela, one can see pendants, bracelets, jet necklaces strung in silver.
But nowadays, the most prestigious silversmiths, such as those of Antequera (Malaga) work mainly in specially commissioned work, or restoration work, mainly religious.
